Coding Compliance Services
PSA’s Coding Compliance Services have been designed to provide education and training to help improve report documentation and CPT coding skills in order to minimize risks associated with over-coding and lack of documentation, while maximizing reimbursement through careful documentation and correct coding of all services provided. PSA's Coding Compliance department is staffed by Certified Professional Coders (CPCs) with extensive experience and training in pathology-specific coding. These CPCs work closely with billing staff to identify and address coding issues.
PSA also has one of the largest databases of pathology billing and coding information in the country. This database uniquely positions PSA to identify coding norms and payor trends to ensure proper coding and reimbursement, and also promote political advocacy for pathologists nationwide.
Pathology Coding & Compliance Services include:
- CPT Coding Reviews performed annually for all billing clients. These reviews identify overcoding, undercoding, lack of documentation, reduced number of units and omitted codes. For all new affiliated practices, PSA also provides a 100% report review during start up, which has increased coding efficiency in some practices up to 20% .
- On-site CPT Coding Training Consultations for practice-specific problems, identified through billing and coding reviews.
- Consultations with CPCs conducted via telephone, fax, or email for assistance in resolving simple to complex coding issues with supporting documentation.
- Coding Proficiency Challenges to evaluate your CPT coding skills through a Web-based coding exam issued three times a year. One hour of CME credit is provided.
- Coding & Compliance Updates and Information provided through PSA’s Coding & Compliance Alert newsletter, email alerts, audio conferences, and industry presentations to keep PSA affiliated practices up-to-date with changes in coding procedures.
